Dr. Gilbert is Professor of Biology at Swarthmore College. He is the author of the textbook, Developmental Biology , presently in its eighth edition, and he is the co-author of Bioethics: Springboards for Debate. He received his PhD in the pediatric genetics unit of the Johns Hopkins University, and he also has a BA in Religion and an MA in the History of Science. He has received several awards for his writing and his research, including the Viktor Hamburger Award from the Society for Developmental Biology and the Alexander Kowalevsky Prize for Evolutionary Developmental Biology. His wife, Anne Raunio, is an OB/GYN at Crozer-Chester Medical Center.
