Course Description:

This course will expose/educate physicians on tools and techniques as well as barriers to improving patient safety in hospitals.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, the learner should be able to:

  • Identify three national organizations involved in the Quality/Patient Safety movement
  • Describe the 5 Million Lives Campaign
  • Identify three 'Hot Topics' in patient safety
  • Discuss at least one approach to effect change in patient safety
  • Identify two barriers to improving health care safety/quality

Method of Needs Assessment:

  • CKHS performance metrics in EBM and HAI
  • Feedback from Physician Leaders (Quality/Safety Work Group, Medical Executive Committees, Medical Staff Services Committees)
